Advantages and disadvantages of dry-type transformers

Oct 19,2023

Dry-type transformers are widely used in local lighting, high-rise buildings, airports, terminal CNC machinery and equipment, etc. Simply speaking, dry-type transformers refer to transformers whose iron cores and windings are not immersed in insulating oil.

Advantages and disadvantages of dry-type transformers

1. Good fire resistance, no flammable resin, no toxic gas, flame retardant and self-extinguishing characteristics

2. Low loss and low noise

3. No pollution, no maintenance

4. Good insulation performance, no partial discharge, strong lightning shock resistance

5. Good mechanical strength, strong resistance to temperature changes and short circuit

6. Moisture resistance, can operate under high humidity

7. The installation is economical, and it can be installed with the load center without special foundation.

8. Small size and light weight

9. Automatic temperature monitoring and protection

Disadvantages of dry-type transformers

1. The cost is high, and the ability to withstand harsh environments is relatively poor. Generally, it can only be installed indoors.

2. If the dry-type transformer coil is damaged, it will be scrapped directly.

3. Dry-type transformers are durable, and the probability of winding failure is small. But once it fails, the whole setup changes, i.e. the change of high and low voltage windings is done with the limbs.
